The Tamilnadu Prevention and Control of Water Pollution Board was comprised by the Government of Tamilnadu on twenty seventh day of February, Nineteen eighty two (27-2-1982) in compatibility of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 (Central Act 6 of 1974).
The Board was later renamed as Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) in the year 1983. It authorizes the arrangements of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and the standards made under these Acts, which incorporates.

Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), was built up on 27.2.1982. It capacities with Head Office at Chennai, 7 Zonal workplaces and 38 District workplaces. The Board office is going by the Chairman, Zonal workplaces are going by the Joint Chief Environmental Engineers, and the 38 District workplaces are going by District Environmental Engineers. Two flying crews are additionally working at Erode and Tiruppur which are going by the Environmental Engineers.
To aid the Analytical and Scientific side, the Board has built up 8 Advanced Environmental Laboratories, 8 District Environmental Laboratories.
TNPCB is actualizing the Pollution Control Legislations and Rules and Notifications confined in that. In releasing the obligations endowed to it, the Board explores, gathers and disperses information identifying with water, air and land contamination, sets down benchmarks for sewage/exchange gushing and outflows.
